The Frog by William Henry Dawson
Have you ever wished when fretting
‘Bout the chilly air of spring,
When the days are longer getting
And the frogs begin to sing,
Have you ever wished that you could
just change places with the frog –
Let him shoulder all your trouble
And then leave you on the log,
In the middle of the mill-pond,
Nothing in the world to do?
Have you ever wished you could change places,
You be frog and frog be you?
He don’t fret ’bout rainy weather;
If the sun shines he don’t cry;
He just takes it all together;
Happy wet and happy dry.
The frog lives both in freshwater and on land, bridging two worlds to balance the sensitivity of its skin, which needs moisture and a nurturing environment. It loves the patter and the force of rain, when it sings and croaks contentedly. Never travelling far nor wide, it loves the lily pad and the bank of the swamp -and for the tree frog, a view, but not from on high, just a bough or two. Starting life as a legless, big-headed, tailed tadpole, it metamorphoses into a four-legged, big-eyed, tail-less frog, a creature of magic and wonder – and of health and healing.
ADVICE: It may be a time for you to love your look, for the strange little tadpole in you will, in time, become a much-adored creature – or at least a person of interest! Embrace difficult challenges with a hop, a leap, a jump – and call or croak to your neighbours if you need assistance. Join a choir. Clean up your stuff – you do not need so much in the physical world; a pad to sleep, an environment that pleases but does not clutter your mind. Your sensitivity – of skin and within – needs to be nurtured and protected – so, don’t sit too long in the hot sun!
“If we can discover the meaning in the trilling of a frog, perhaps we may understand why it is for us not merely noise but a song of poetry and emotion.” – Adrian Forsyth
